In April of 2018 while traveling abroad, Dr. Shafa visited an underserved community with no access to treatment and offered her services to many children suffering from skin diseases and other health conditions. There, she was introduced to the children’s parents, who had many unanswered questions about their children’s health. In response, Dr. Shafa began conducting basic examinations and offering available treatments. Populations such as these may not otherwise have had access to the care of a physician. In her retirement, Dr. Shafa dreams of serving these communities and children full-time.
