PDO Thread Lift

What is a PDO thread lift?

PDO (polydioxanone) is a synthetic material that is commonly used in general surgery and in cosmetic procedures, such as the traditional surgical facelift. Now an absorbable, non permanent version of PDO is being used in the non surgical thread lift, which can be used to lift and firm sagging skin on the face, neck, and body.

What does the procedure entail?

The procedure is performed in your doctor’s office using only topical or local anesthesia and only takes 30 – 60 mins. A pilot needle is used to make a single hole in the skin and then the PDO thread is inserted into the area of sagging skin using a blunt cannula. In much the same way that your dermatologist has used pilot needles and cannula to inject dermal fillers. Once the PDO is properly inserted, small hooks on the thread lift the skin and fight the downward pull of gravity on your face.

What areas can be treated with thread lift?

A PDO lift can benefit those patients who are suffering from any of the following:

  • Sagging neck
  • Sagging jowls
  • Droopy eyebrows
  • Falling cheekbones

Who is a good candidate for thread lift?

PDO lift is ideal for those candidates who are just beginning to have sagging but do not wish to yet go under the knife for a traditional surgical face lift. It is also ideal for those men and women whose faces would become too rounded with the additional of multiple fillers in the nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

When will I be able to see results?

Results of the PDO lift are IMMEDIATE following placement of the thread. The results will continue to improve over the next 6 months as the threads stimulate your own collagen and elastin production.

How long will results last?

Results vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the sagging and the type of skin they had prior to placement of the thread. Patients report effects lasting 2-3 years following initial placement of the thread.

Is there any downtime with a thread lift?

The PDO thread lift is referred to as the, “Lunch Hour Facelift” meaning the procedure has minimal to zero pain or complications. You may return to your normal activities immediately following the procedure. Some patients can experience some bruising or swelling but it should subside in a week or less.

What are the advantages of a PDO thread lift?

  • PDO thread is biodegradable and absorbable by your own body
  • No risks of being put under general anesthesia
  • No incisions
  • No scarring
  • More affordable than traditional facelift
