What is sclerotherapy?

Sclerotheapy is the treatment of varicose veins, large reticular veins and spider veins by injecting a “ sclerosing agent” into the veins. This chemical irritates the lining of the veins causing the wall of the veins to colapse .later the treated veins thicken and close. . Many patients who selected this treatment option for cosmetic reasons notice improvement in the way that their legs feel better after treatment.

Is sclerotherapy safe?

Most patients do not experience any complications from sclerotherapy. However, some patient develops allergic reaction to injected product, changes in skin pigmentation at the injection site. Serious complications such as deep vein blood clots and unintentional arterial injection occur rarely.

How effective is the Sclerotherapy?

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the appearance of the treated area improves 50%-90% following the treatments.
How soon do I see the result?
Results generally begin to be seen starting one week after the injections. You continue seeing improvement for the following several weeks.
How long the Procedure take?
It depends on how extended is the vein disease. anywhere between 15 to 45 minutes per session is reasonable.

Who is not a good candidate for sclerotherapy

Anyone who may be pregnant, has slow wound healing issues (diabetes), or is taking any blood thinning agents (such as Coumadin, Plavix, and Aspirin) should not undergo this treatment.

How dose sclerotheapy feel?

The sensation experienced during the treatment could be compared to a pin prick.
What are possible complications with sclerotheapy? Serious complications resulting from injection therapy are rare. Infrequently, Sclerotherapy could cause hyper pigmentation, ulceration, phlebitis, a small blood clot at the injection site or a scar.
Is the result Permanent?
The veins successfully treated rarely return, although new ones may appear, so follow up sessions may be required.
