What is Latisse?
Latisse solution is indicated to treat hypotrichosis (thinning of the hair) of the eyelashes by increasing their growth, including length, thickness, and darkness.
What is the active ingredient in Latisse and is this a new product to medicine?
The active ingredient is bimatoprost 0.03% which is FDA approved and in medical use for a decade. Just like botox that was approved for medical use years before its cosmetic use.
How does bimatoprost (Latisse) work?
Exact mechanism of action is unknown; however it is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in 2 ways: it increases the length of this phase; it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase.
How is Laisse used?
It is very easy just once every night. The solution bottle comes with 60 disposable applicators. You just place one drop of the solution on the applicator tip and draw the applicator across the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes. It is not applied inside of the eye.
How soon will I see result?
The onset of effect with Latisse solution is gradual. In the clinical trial, the majority of the Latisse users saw a significant improvement by 2 months.
What if I stop using Latisse?
Patients’ eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.
Who can prescribe Latisse?
Latisse is available by prescriptions only. It is distributed at some of the physician’s offices. Pharmacies are allowed to dispense it only by valid physician’s prescriptions. Retail on the internet is illegal and not safe. Do not take any risk with your eyes and beauty by unknown distributors.
What are the possible side effects with latisse?
The possible side effects after using Latisse maybe mild irritation and eye redness. These are rare reported side effects.
How is Latisse different from other eyelash extender?
Only Latisse has been studied and approved by FDA for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelash. Other products are eyelash conditioning and not a true stimulator or hair growth. Furthermore other products are not sold as medication so possible long term side effect of those type of products are not under supervision an it is not reportable.
Is latisse safe and effective?
Before FDA approval of this product the safety and effectiveness of Latisse was shown in a clinical trial; however you must consult the physician before starting this product. That’s why distribution of this product on the internet is illegal. |
