Botox for excessive sweating

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis means excessive sweating, underarm, hand and feet sweating – all of which are usually very annoying and can interfere with social activities. Botox and Dysport are both FDA approved, easy to inject, safe and effective for the treatment of severe underarm sweating when topical agents prove to be ineffective. Such an injection is also effective for hand and feet sweating. Just call to make an appointment for free consultation regarding excessive sweating treatment options.

Can Botulinum toxin (Botox or Dysport) treatment help with my excessive sweating?

Botox and Dysport treatments help control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands do not receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.

What is treatment with Botox or Dysport like?

The procedure is relatively straightforward. A small volume of Botox or Dysport solution is injected through a very fine needle into the affected underarm area, just underneath the skin. The procedure is tolerated very well and possible injection-related discomfort can be easily controlled with pre-numbing, icing, or cooling of the skin if needed. Multiple tiny injections are performed based on Dr. Shafa’s assessment of the area that needs to be treated.

What should I expect after I have received Botox or Dysport treatment?

You should notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating within 4 weeks of your first treatment. There is a possibility that some sweat glands may be missed, and you may continue to experience some sweating from the untreated areas. If you do not see a significant reduction in sweating, please do not hesitate to contact our office for a follow-up consultation. View the Similarities and Differences between Botox and Dysport

How effective is Botox or Dysport treatment for excessive sweating?

Multiple clinical studies have shown that Botox or Dysport effectively reduces underarm sweating anywhere between 60% to 80% and that the median duration of response for Botox for treatment of excessive sweating was 6.7 months. This treatment is not a cure. Excessive sweating will return gradually and you will know when the time is right for another treatment. Dr. Shafa will recommend a treatment strategy to ensure that you receive the best possible results with Botox or Dysprot treatment. A combination treatment such as use of anti sweat topical product ( as a prescription) with periodic injections is also an option.
