How Can I Take Care of My Skin at home?

Remember Good skin care plays an important role in treating acne

Follow a healthy and balanced diet and stay well hydrated at all times. Although studies have shown that acne has no relationship to your diet, your personal experience may show that your skin becomes worse with certain types of food or stress. Avoid foods that worsen you acne. Most females notice worsening of the acne before menses.
Aviod stess, several studies suggest that anxiety and anger are significant factors for patients who have severe acne. For your well-being, health, and skin, Dr. Shafa highly advises you to relax and participate in regular relaxing exercise and sport.
Avid direct sunlight exposure and tanning, Contrary to popular belief, tanning does not clear acne; it simply masks acne. Tanning also increases one’s risk of developing melanoma and other skin cancers. It is important to protect your skin by following sun-protection practices.
Acne is not a disease of hygiene. You should not try to scrub the lesions away. Wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser and water. Washing your face more than twice a day can increase redness and discomfort.
Prevent permanent discoloration and acne scar. Touching your acne can worsen redness and cause permanent unwanted skin changes. However, when comedons removal is needed, it should be performed under sterile condition by an expert
Avoid irritating you skin, Don’t use alcohol-based astringents that can dry and irritate the skin.
Avoid aggravating your skin. Mechanical trauma can make acne worse. Therefore, avoid picking at lesions. Doing so may cause more inflammation and introduce infection to your acne.
Avoid adding oil to your skin, Oily hair and sporting equipment that rubs against your skin can irritate and make your acne worse. Keep oily hair off your face and wash it daily. Avoid using hair care products that contain oil, such as pomades and gels.
Use right type of cosmetic products, use "noncomedogenic" products that means,Non-greasy, oil-free, water based products, these does not clog pores. Cream-based cleansers should be avoided.
Avoid tanning booth and sun lamps. Some acne treatments can increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight and ultraviolet light from tanning booths and sun lamps.
